Six months ago I was introduced to FlyWheel sports in rebellion to the Soul Cycle craze. I called the UPW (upper west side) FlyWheel studio to find an instructor with high energy hip-hop music. Ryan Makely’s “Rap Chick” themed class was recommended. This class was the beginning of a brand addiction.
Six spin classes later I receive a notification of FlyWheels' six-week FlyBarre challenge. It's six weeks of four FlyBarre classes a week and a nutrition program to follow all for $775. I immediately sign-up. The orientation is at the FlyWheel's Flatiron location which is nice but small. I put on my Lululemon's and proceed knowing that measurements are a part of the night. The studio resembles a ballet studio with yoga mats placed strategically. After measurements, I head home with my game plan.
Week one starts and I'm raring to go. I use the FlyWheel mobile iPhone app to book all of my classes. Class one is great. It begins with fluid movements to warm up and then push-ups, planks and abs. After we transitioned into thighs and then up next are arms. Finally we finish with more abs. After a nice stretch the class is complete.
Week two starts and I'm sore but pumped as I'm down four inches and I'm starting to fall in love with FlyBarre and the apparel. This week is all about form. Each class I spend my energy making sure that my form is tight. I have my weekly measurements, I'm down another two inches.
Week three starts and i plan to hang out with friends after a class. After a sixty-minute sweat-fest I make my way to the very well appointed changing rooms where deodorant, Bliss lotion, hair ties, bobby pins, ear plugs and Neutrogena cloths are all available.
Week four starts and I'm flying high. I decide to take a barre class followed by a wheel class. I'm down another inch.
Week five and six are amazing. My team leader Amanda is such an inspiration and wonderful cheerleader. The sense of accomplishment is inexplicable.
I have my last measurement session with Amanda and we tally up the changes. And after all the hard work, sacrifice, and planning I've found my center and I lost ten inches.
